S38E Restoration
Latest project - The S38E I picked up from eBay. The finish was a little rough but mechanically everything was fine with minimal rust. The electronics were all original and the radio played with no hum at first test. The original back and bottom panels were intact and in good shape. The knobs were original with no nicks or cracks.
Surface rust spots were actually the visible portions of rust areas below the paint. Significant portions of paint had to be removed to clear the rust. I wasn't able to find light gray "hammer-tone" paint so I opted to use Rust-O-Leum light blue hammer-tone paint. After carefully masking the silk screened lettering and the silver area below the dial window, the cabinet was repainted. Although not the "original" color it looks good. The chassis just required a light cleaning as did the knobs - then everything went back together...
